Job Opening: Administrative and Environmental Law Attorney, 32–40 hours per week

We are looking for a lawyer to join our Regulatory Affairs team on a full-time basis. We prefer a lawyer with expertise in administrative or environmental law, but we are also interested in hearing from lawyers with a relevant background in civil law or public administration.

Publieke Zaken a public affairs consulting firm in The Hague, located across from the Binnenhof. We support companies and organizations in developing and implementing their public affairs strategies, with a focus on sectors such as energy, climate, sustainability, agriculture, mobility, and the circular economy. Analyzing and advising on existing and future Dutch and EU laws and regulations is an essential part of this. Regulations surrounding the energy transition are being developed at a rapid pace, often with input from companies such as our clients. Your clear, legal analysis and advice enable these companies to quickly adapt to the challenges they face.

What will you be doing?
As part of our (legal) Regulatory Affairs team, you will track and analyze the development and implementation of new laws and regulations in Brussels and The Hague to inform and advise our clients on the impact on their energy projects (see also our Regulatory Dashboard). You’ll do this in collaboration with our political analysts and advisors, who closely follow the political scene in The Hague by monitoring political debates, policy developments, and current events. Together, we’ll develop comprehensive lobbying advice and strategies for our clients. This will give you ample opportunity to combine your legal knowledge with your interest in politics and society.

If it aligns with your experience, you will also focus on administrative law issues relevant to our clients’ business operations and projects. Among other things, you will monitor developments in the areas of permitting, enforcement, objection and appeal procedures, subsidy schemes, and decision-making by administrative bodies. You will also analyze the implications of changes to, among other things, the Environment Act, environmental regulations, nitrogen policy, and energy-related regulations for our clients’ day-to-day operations. In this way, you will provide insight not only into new rules but also into how they should be applied in practice.

Who are we looking for?

• Completed master’s degree in law (for example, in constitutional and administrative law, EU law, and/or energy law; other fields of study with a legal component and combinations of fields of study are also welcome).
• >3–6 years of work experience, preferably in administrative law or environmental law (for example, at a law firm, as a legal counsel, or at a government agency).
• You have an affinity with laws and regulations, politics and society.
• You are interested in issues related to permitting, nitrogen, agriculture, sustainability, climate, energy, the circular economy, and mobility.
• Knowledge of the Environment Act is a plus.
• You don't mind being seconded to our clients—key players in the energy and agricultural transitions—from time to time.
• You work carefully yet pragmatically and are able to quickly distinguish between what’s important and what isn’t.
• You can switch well between different assignments.
• You have good written skills in both Dutch and English.
