About Mark

Mark Frequin has worked in government for more than 40 years. Apart from the province of South Holland, he worked at eight ministries. Mostly in the role of director general (dg); such as at IenW as dg Mobility, at BZK, as dg Housing and Construction; and at EZ as dg Energy and Telecom. Many positions were at the interface of government and market. He also served as dg Housing, Communities and Integration at the then Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment and as director of primary education at OCW and deputy secretary general at Justice. During the Corona pandemic, Mark set up and led two crisis organizations. He did this together with various civil society actors. Mark also writes articles and books on the cooperation of ministers and (top) officials. He was chairman of the Association for Government Management for many years and has organized the Reuringdebat for many years. Commissioned by the General Administration, he drafted the Compass for Public Leadership for Government.

Mark wants to continue his efforts to make government even better, to show more public leadership and, above all, to be much more accessible to citizens and businesses. Many new solutions to major issues, he believes, must come from more government collaboration with social actors.
