Register: Energy Markets Masterclass

Our Energy Markets Masterclass is scheduled for May 2024. Would you like to learn more about the influence of economic developments on energy demand? Do you wonder to what extent national and international politics play a role in this? And are you curious about the effect of energy and climate policies on markets and market prices? Then read on to register for this Masterclass given by Hans van Cleef on May 16, 2024.

Energy markets are continuously influenced by various factors. For example, growth in energy demand results from economic developments. But fiscal and monetary policies and currency exchange rates can also be influential. The supply of energy resources can change unexpectedly. Maintenance, weather conditions, import and export capacity, (un)planned changes in production capacity and other factors can cause large price fluctuations. (Geo)political aspects also affect energy prices from time to time. Finally, trading strategies, including arbitrage in time and place and market speculation, also play a determining role in the pricing of various energy sources. These market drivers are different every day, and they vary continuously from one energy source to another.

During the Energy Markets Masterclass, Hans van Cleef will take you into the world of energy markets. Hans will walk through the factors that influence energy markets and show with examples the impact. Impact on short-term (intraday/day-ahead/spot) markets, and the longer contracts (monthly/yearly contracts). The relationship between different commodities, the differences between market price and consumer price, and the operation of the merit order, among others, are also discussed. To what extent do national and international politics play a role? What is the effect of energy and climate policy on markets and market prices? And what role does the EU ETS and CBAM play? Finally, we provide an outlook on energy transition and long-term expectations of a changing energy mix using scenarios.
